Playing US Football - How To Play It

For many young kids in the US, the early school years are the beginning of their long involvement with playing football. Important lessons are learned at this time and will probably stay with us always. Just a few include leadership, getting along with others and learning to work on a team. There are further significant lessons like being educated in areas like enthusiasm, being dutiful, etc. Totally falls as per person and their personal commendation. This particular sport requires certain talents and abilities in order to be a significant player.

American football is played on many levels according to age and whether the play is amateur or professional. There are three different levels to the game; high school, college and professional. The name of the organization that governs high school play is the National Federation of State High School Associations. Then onto college football, which the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) governs. College football is also organized by another organization called the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The National Football League, or the NFL as most people know it, is the professional football organization. At the onset of all plays, bylaws indicate that a line must be formed with seven players at the line of scrimmage for the offense. Besides that, the wide receivers, tight ends and running backs are not held according to number. It hinges on the individual play that's ordered. You will discover it depends on the total yardage critical for a first down. The offense need to seize at least ten yards at the beginning of their first play, or down. After that point, they have at total of four downs, or plays, in which to achieve another first down. So, if they have lost yardage and have twenty yards for a first down, then you will typically see a pass play.

Every football team has something called a special team. The special teams are designated for the plays that involve having to kick the ball. The ball can be punted, or a field goal attempt can be made in the ball kicking plays. The latter play, field goal attempts, are made after a score or during a three point attempt. The 3rd play involves kicking off to the other team, after a score has been made, at the beginning of the game or during the third quarter after halftime. The place kicker, punter and the long snapper (who is responsible for snapping the ball to the punter) are part of the special team. And don't forget the special team runners, who go and retrieve the ball after a kick-off punt has been made. Of course there are many rules among all three levels that overlap or are the same. Therefore, when a player makes the transition from one level to another, the process shouldn't be a problem. But when you are learning how to play football, your best source of information will always be your coach.
